As of 10 a.m. on June 25, Hengqin Port had cleared over 1 million Macao single-license vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 46%, reaching this milestone 72 days earlier than last year. The daily average of vehicles passing through the port is expected to reach new highs during the summer vacation.
The Macao single-license vehicle policy has accelerated the integration of Hengqin and Macao. Since the first such vehicle entered Hengqin from Macao in 2016, eligible non-commercial Macao vehicles with up to 9 seats can apply to enter the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone.
As the policy's benefits become more apparent, more Macao residents are choosing to work, start businesses, and live in the cooperation zone. By April 2025, a total of 27,000 Macao residents were either employed or living in the zone, a year-on-year increase of 27.6%.
Since last year, Hengqin Port Inspection Station has activated 30 joint one-stop vehicle inspection channels and a hall for checking vehicle passengers, enhancing clearance capacity. Currently, the port handles a daily average of 9,300 vehicles, including 6,100 Macao single-license vehicles, with peak daily vehicles exceeding 10,300.
This year, the port has set a new record for daily vehicles eight times, surpassing 10,000 six times, with Macao single-license vehicles accounting for about 66%. The annual clearance of such vehicles is expected to surpass 2 million this year.
To strengthen connectivity, the Hengqin Port Inspection Station consistently operates vehicle inspection channels at full capacity, increases staffing during peak times, and opens more manual inspection lanes to reduce crossing times for cross-region students and other groups. Meanwhile, it also deepens policy and regulation alignment by advancing the policy of Macao single-license vehicles traveling north via the cooperation zone, promoting the efficient flow of people and goods.
