The Greater Bay Area Cultural and Sports Center in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, marked its debut operation with a men's basketball competition on Sunday.

Located at the southernmost end of Guangzhou, the center is a key construction project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group and other units began construction on the center in 2023.

The center includes a stadium with 60,000 seats, an indoor arena that can accommodate 20,000 people, and a water sports center equipped with a 50-meter standard swimming pool and diving pool, which can accommodate 4,000 people, along with related supporting facilities.

The Guangdong Football Super League is scheduled to open in late August at the stadium.

The facilities meet the requirements for hosting domestic and international sporting events and allow for performances, exhibitions, and other multifunctional uses, becoming a large urban complex that integrates cultural tourism and sports functions.

With the curvilinear design highlighting dynamism and maritime charm, the structures extend northward to the Nansha Wetland Park, blending seamlessly with the coastal landscape.
